Government Shovel-Ready Waste

Waste management for swine, and elevating access for children to the performing arts and other education programs may be good legislation that can stand or fall on a separate vote. But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid introduced a $1.27 trillion 1,924 page omnibus spending bill containing nearly 7,000 such earmarks worth over $8 billion – the week before Christmas. Yes, and all this has to be approved by midnight Saturday or the government shuts down.

Sterling leadership has a whole new meaning. Citizens pay the silver! So what do the American people want to put in Harry’s stocking this Christmas? A lump of coal! The same for others who support this atrocity in governance.

One would think that after getting what Barack Obama called a “shellacking” in the November elections, that Congress would have gotten the message to stop. What did the lame politicians learn in last month’s election? It seems that they only learned that their days are numbered for pillaging the Country and our children. Their action plan along with Obama’s strategy is – better swiftly shovel this down America’s throat, again.

Gallup’s recent poll reveals 83% of Americans disapprove of the job Congress is doing – more than any other Congress. And why do citizens so detest the 111th Congress? The reckless way it spends other people’s money, is a huge reason – the money of WE THE PEOPLE.

Vanity projects buying votes in the bill include:

$175,000 Shellfish Safety Testing Pilot, MA

$1,000,000 Hawaii Coral Reef Initiative, HI

$500,000 Highly Migratory Shark Fishery Research Program, CA

$200,000 Gunshot Location System Expansion Project, AL and MA

$1,000,000 Public Safety Communications System Upgrade, FL

$250,000 Elevating Access to Performing Arts Education for Children by Enhancing our In-frastructure and Enriching Structure, NY – Yep, Charlie Rangel

$10,000,000 Glenville State College, Glenville, WV

$2,000,000 Land Acquisition Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest

$500,000 Large Millimeter Telescope -University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA

$1,000,000 Great Basin College – Direct Use Geothermal Demonstration Project (NV)

Pretty soon we are talking about real money?

This bill is insane! I wonder if Dirty Harry from NV learned anything in this November election? Thanks to all who contacted their elected officials resulting in a surprise move last night by Sen. Reid. He realized he did not have the votes so he withdrew the Omnibus bill. I really sense that Dirty Harry never learned how to “play nice” in Kindergarden, and the Democrats continue to play “Congress games” wasting precious time.

A one-page continuing resolution that keeps the government funded at current levels, for a month or so, until the next Congress is sworn in and deals with the issue, is the only way to go. Perhaps this will prevail. But watch out. Other 11th hour bills are coming with earmarks. If it smells like a pig and oinks like a pig…it’s pork!
